Science-Genetic test on Thursday, today we did a review.

Math - Students prepared for the KPS Assessment 8.5.4 which deals with spreadsheets and statistical methods. We met in Lab 119 today to practice and will be in the Media Center on Thursday to complete the assessment.

English -- Today students completed a helping verb worksheet. Finish the worksheet tonight and read from an AR book.

GEOGRAPHY – Today in class we went over the test and Landform books. We then started on Chapter 1 in the textbooks with discussion. (Students will have an option to re-take the Landform test if they earned an 85% or lower. Students need to come in before school, after school, or during lunch to re-take the test. Final day to re-take the test will be Thursday after school.) No Homework.

Science-Your science current event for November is due Wednesday November 5th. Today we finished our "Genetics with a Smile" activity. Finish your genetic review before class on Wednesday.

English -- Today students completed a linking verb worksheet. Finish the worksheet tonight and read from an AR book.

GEOGRAPHY – Today in class we reviewed all of the landforms in their slide packet. There will be a test tomorrow over all the landforms that we have covered in this unit. Make sure students have handed in their landform booklets (10 points off for each day they do not hand it in!) Homework is to study for their test.

ITBS testing started today for 7th grade students. Testing will occur during core classes Mon - Thurs. We will not send another email until Friday.

Math - Students got back into math by dealing with pumpkins and watch a cool video from PBS dealing with fractals.

English -- Today we wrote Halloween chain stories using "scary action verbs". Be sure you are reading in your blue dot book at night.

GEOGRAPHY – Their Landform Booklets are due TODAY, October 31st. The total points for this assignment is 72. I will accept no late assignments. If a student hands in a late Landform Booklet, 10 points will be taken off for each day it is late (sick days etc. will be excused). We also did some Current Events. No homework if they got their Landform Booklets handed in! Happy Halloween!

Science –Went over the quiz over DNA, we did EXCELLENT! We started the male/female sheet.

Math - Students took a went over Checkpoint 1 & 2. Students were given the rest of the period to work on the Chapter 2 Wrap up problems. It will be due tomorrow. We will continue reviewing tomorrow and have a test on Thursday dealing primarily with the order of operations and the distributive property.

Math - Students went over how to divide decimals and took the KPS Assessment over it. Students are to finish the other worksheet that they were given on Friday (they had two - one needed to be finished for today)

Pre-Algebra - Students went over questions dealing with combining like terms. We then discussed lesson 2-4. Complete the homework from that lesson.

English -- Today we reviewed nouns on the computer. Tonight, use four during-reading strategies while reading your AR book. Noun test is Wednesday.

GEOGRAPHY – Today in Geography we went over our tests in class. The students had an option to correct the questions that they got wrong to receive half of the points back, if the corrected answer is correct.

Science –Today we went over the quiz on how materials get into cells and started reading about DNA. Monday we are in 208.

Math - Students went over the lesson 2-5 homework. We then took part of a KPS Assessment dealing with multiplying decimals. Students were given 2 practice worksheets. They need to have one of them done for Monday (front and back). Please check powerschool to see if your student needs to retake a previous KPS Assessment. A score of "0" would indicate that a retake is needed. Birth Announcement Redos will be graded and inputed this weekend.

Pre-Algebra - Students continued working with combining like terms. No homework.

English -- Today we reviewed possessive nouns. Tonight, finish the noun worksheet and use four during-reading strategies while reading your AR book.

GEOGRAPHY – Today we had the Unit Test over Latitude and Longitude. No Homework.

Science –We did skits and watched sections of videos to learn how materials get in and out of cells. We will have quiz on how materials enter and leave cells on Thursday.

Math - Students went over the lesson 2-3 homework. We then took the KPS assessment dealing with adding and subtracting decimals. Some students reviewed and retook last week's assessment while others had time to work on the homework. Lesson 2-4 will be due tomorrow.

Pre-Algebra - Students went over the skills you need for chapter 2 and went over aspects from lesson 2-1 and 2-2. Complete the Homework from lesson 2-2.

GEOGRAPHY – Today we did a classroom activity called Absolutely Corret! It was a partner activity where the students had to locate places using Latitude and Longitude. The Latitude and Longitude test for this unit will be on Friday; Thursday we will review!

Math - The Birth Announcement project was due yesterday. It will take me a good week or so to get them graded. I will accept late projects. Students worked on review worksheets. They are to have the front and the back side of the "How much" worksheet and the front side of the "After building" completed for tomorrow.

Pre-Algebra - Students went through a powerpoint to review for the Chapter 1 Test Thursday (which will be composed of 5 (fairly quick and easy) KPS assessments).

Science –Continued our inquiry mystery activity. Monday's class is in 119.

Math - Students discussed how failure leads to success if you don't give up and be persistent (Mr. Sanny trying to solve the Rubik's Cube). Students were given more time to work on / finish lesson 1-1. Lesson 1-1 homework will be graded Monday.

Pre-Algebra - Students discussed the importance of solving a problem in a specific order by looking at how to solve the Rubik's Cube and went over homework from lesson 1-2 and were given more practice time.

English -- Today we reviewed capitalization rules for proper adjectives. Tonight, finish your worksheet, use one during reading strategy while reading your AR book. Be sure to have a parent sign your AR paper and return it to Mrs. Westerbeck by Monday.

GEOGRAPHY – We read through the Omaha World Herald for Current Events. We also discussed other current events that are happening with the Olympics. We related this articles to issues that we all have experienced.

English -- Today we reviewed different capitalization rules. Tonight, finish your capitalization worksheet, use one during reading strategy while reading your AR book. Be sure to have a parent sign your AR paper and return it to Mrs. Westerbeck by Monday.

GEOGRAPHY – Students were assigned a World Map Activity to complete today in class. Most were able to finish within the class period, but some may have one or two questions left to finish- so a few students may have a little homework. Again we will be testing over the 7 continents and the 4 major oceans Tuesday the 26th of August. I hope everyone is taking advantage of watching some Olympic games. They only happen every 4 years!

Pre-Algebra - Students went over the Skills you Need for Chapter 1 and started lesson 1-1. Complete the lesson 1-1 homework for tomorrow.

English -- Today we learned how to take an AR test. Tonight, use one during reading strategy while reading your AR book. Be sure to have a parent sign your AR paper and return it to Mrs. Westerbeck by Monday.

GEOGRAPHY – Today we finished up with some Geography notes if needed. Then we started to review a map that contained all the major continents and oceanic divisions. We also took the time to fill out the map. Students will need to keep this map and the definitions because there will be a quiz over the major continents and oceanic divisions Tuesday the 26th.

Science –Viewed a nervous system video, please come in and view this. Tuesday's class is in lab 113.

Math - Students took a mult fact quiz, went over the test and then were assigned problems from 7-1: 1 - 3 and 7-2, 1 - 4, 5 - 8 (just identify) and 14 - 20.

English -- In class students took the final test over the Outsiders. We will watch the movie during class for the rest of the week. Students who haven't turned in a permission form will not be allowed to watch the film. Be reading for your AR points.

Math - Students went over the worksheet from the other day and then talked about some pressing issues that involve math. Ask your student how many times he or she could fold piece of paper in half. What if you were able to fold one in half 50 times? How thick would it be? No homework

English -- In class students went over chapter 9 of the Outsiders. Please finish critical thinking questions or your summary for tomorrow's panel discussion. Bring back signed permission forms. Be reading for your AR points.

Math - Students went to the computer lab. Those who had zeros for assignments had the chance to work on those. I've played around with this site and it looks pretty good.
