Math:   We handed back the Vocab Activities and talked about grades.   

Pre-Algebra     We discussed more from 3-3 and moved on to 3-4.  Complete the homework from 3-4 for tomorrow. 
 
Geography:  Worked on Asia maps and briefly introduced government.  Asia maps are due Friday.

English:  Catching Fire Unit. Today, we read chapter 17 in class. The study guide questions need to be filled out for homework.

Science:  Students made a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast mitosis and meiosis.  No homework.

Horizon Middle School students will be hosting a Veterans Day “Freedom Celebration” on Monday, November 11th, 2013.  Veterans and community members are invited to enjoy breakfast and coffee from 7:45-8:45A.M. At 8:45A.M. students will present a Veterans Day program. This program will feature performances by the Horizon band and chorus as well as a Veterans Day address by our guest speaker, Retired General Roma Amundson of the Army National Guard. The students and staff at H.M.S. want to make veterans a special part of this program.  Veterans, military personnel, and family members of soldiers currently on active duty will be recognized and honored at the program. Please contact Horizon Middle School if you are able to attend(698-8120).


Math:   We did a quick review and then took the quiz over lessons 12-1 - 12-4.  No homework.  If you have not turned in the Vocab Activities, GET THEM DONE!!!

Geography:  Today we started Asia Physical Map work.  No homework.

English:  Catching Fire Unit. Today, we read chapter 16 in class. The study guide questions need to be filled out for homework.

Science:  Students took a test over the Cell Cycle.  No homework.

English:  Catching Fire Unit. Today, we read chapter 11-12 in class. The study guide questions need to be filled out for homework.

Science:  Students modeled the cell cycle using pipe cleaners, string and paper.  Students that finished this assignment early got to use iPads to make an iMovie of the cell cycle.  Students have received a Cell Cycle Practice Test (this will serve as our study guide).  Cell Cycle Test this Thursday.

Science:  Students finished filling out their Cell Cycle Vocab Chart.  We also watched a few mitosis animations to help visualize the phases.  Students received a Cell Cycle Practice Test (this will serve as our study guide).  Test next Thursday.

Due to the CATCHING FIRE FASHION SHOW today, classes were slightly altered.

Science:  Students in 3rd and 9th periods acted out the phases of the cell cycle.  Periods 6 and 7 watched the Catching Fire fashion show in the gym.  Make sure your science notebook is up-to-date.  Notebooks are being graded this week.

Math:   Students took two multiplication fact quizzes, utilizing a new trick on the second one.  We then graded 12-1 and went over questions.  No new homework, if you didn't finish the 12-1 problems, do them for the next class period.  Keep working on the Vocab Activities for Week 2.  The activities are due Friday.  We will also take the spelling quiz from those words. 

Pre-Algebra     Students worked at stations on problems that will be seen on the assessment in preparation for the Chapter 2 Formative Assessment which is THURSDAY.
 
Geography: Traits of culture collage activity cont.  Homework:  Some students are missing the population assignments and were reminded today.  Quiz over Population and Culture will be Nov 5th, Tuesday.

Math:   Students reviewed solving equations and then had time to work on their vocab activities and problems from the textbook.  See Mr. Sanny if you were absent.


Pre-Algebra     Students reviewed for the Chapter 2 Formative Assessment which will be Thursday.  Finish at home if not completed in class.



Geography: Students started discussion on culture with some "what if" questions.  We have an upcoming quiz over population and culture on Monday, November 4th. 


English:  Catching Fire Unit. Today, we read chapter six in class. The study guide questions need to be filled out for homework.


Science:  Students made cheese in order to observe how a protein works.  No homework.

Math:   Students turned in the Week 1 Vocab Activities, took the spelling quiz and then went over the expectations for the Week 2 Vocab Activities.  Kids have the weekend to get started on them.  The activities are due next Friday.

Pre-Algebra     Students continued with Lesson 2-8. and were assigned homework.    Friday:  Vocab activities are due and we will take a spelling quiz over week 1 words.  Finish your vocab activities and study the spellings of the words.
 
Geography: Population activity on the iPads continued and finish-up.  Students had some time to work on the Population Density worksheet after the iPad activity.  Ask your student if they finished both activities for today.  Have a great weekend.

Math:   Students reviewed the homework and the notecard work from yesterday.  Students then took a TIZ over lesson 2-1 - 2-5 and 5-1.  Friday:  Vocab activities are due and we will take a spelling quiz over week 1 words.  Finish your vocab activities and study the spellings of the words.

Math:   Students reviewed how to access Moodle (learn.kps) and the online textbook.    We looked at some Hunger Games statistics and reviewed problems on a notecard.  Complete problems 14-15, 18-20 and 22-24 on page 102 as well as 13-16, 21-26, 29-35 on page 278.  We will be taking a quiz tomorrow over lessons 2-1 - 2-5 and 5-1.  Friday:  Vocab activities are due and we will take a spelling quiz over week 1 words.

Pre-Algebra     Students graded Lesson 2-7 from yesterday and they were assigned problems from Lesson 2-8.  Friday:  Vocab activities are due and we will take a spelling quiz over week 1 words.
 
Geography: Population notes and population density practice and application.  Ask your student if they have homework- some may have a few questions left to answer.

Math:   Students graded the homework from 2-5 and then discussed problems from Lesson 5-1  Complete problems 1-12 on page 278.

Pre-Algebra     Students went over Lesson 2-7 from yesterday and they were assigned more problems from that lesson.
 
Geography: Population activity: 80-15-5.  No homework.

English:  Catching Fire Unit. Today, we read chapter two in class. The study guide questions need to be filled out for homework.

Science:  Students extracted DNA from a strawberry and made some observations.  The lab sheet is not homework, but bring it to class tomorrow.  Test over DNA this Friday!

Math:   Students were given the Vocab Activities Week 1.  We discussed what needs to be done with the activities.  They are due Friday at the beginning of class.  We will also take a spelling quiz over those words on Friday.  For tomorrow, kids are to complete the B side of the worksheet from last week as well as problems 4 - 6, 14-19, 21, 24, 25, 28 from Lesson 2-5 for tomorrow.

English:   Tic-Tac-Write activity. It is due on Monday. The pronoun packet is due today. If it is not turn in by 4:00, then it will not be accepted late.

Science:  Students finished a packet to show how DNA is the code for making protein.  The packet was turned in for a grade.

Math:   Students went over lesson 2-5.  Students have a worksheet to complete for tomorrow as well as problems 1-3, 8-13, 22, 23, 26, 29 from 2-5 for tomorrow.

Pre-Algebra     Students were assigned lesson 2-6 for tomorrow
 
Geography: Climate Zone notes and created a Climate Map.  Students need to study tonight for the short quiz tomorrow (notes and map) over Landforms and Climates. 

English:  Pages 5-6 in the Adjective/Adverb packet (popcorn activity). The packet is due tomorrow! I will not accept the packet after 4:00 p.m. tomorrow.

Science:  Students began a packet to show how DNA is the code for making protein.  We will finish this packet tomorrow in class.  The DNA coloring wksht due today.

Math:   Students graded yesterday's homework and then played integer war.  NO homework.

Pre-Algebra     Students graded 2-5 and then played integer war.  No homework.
 
Geography: Climate notes and discussion.  No homework.  A short quiz on Friday over Landforms and Climates.

English:  Compass Learning day. No homework.

Science:  Students worked on a DNA coloring worksheet and watched a Bill Nye video about DNA.  The DNA coloring wksht is due tomorrow.

Math:   Students took a mult fact quiz, went over negative exponents and then worked on review problems.  Page 102:  1-21, page 135, 17-28.

Pre-Algebra     Students went lesson 2-4 and went over how to do lesson 2-5.  Complete anything not finished during class for tomorrow.
 
Geography: Fresh vs. Salt water notes and discussion.  No homework.  A short quiz on Friday over Landforms and Climates.

English: Adjective and Adverb packet. Pages 7-9 are due for tomorrow.

Science:  Students took notes over DNA.  No homework.

Math:   Students took a mult fact quiz, went over the Formative Assessment from Friday.  We then reviewed integer operations and showed how to use chips to answer problems.   No homework.

Pre-Algebra     Students graded lesson 2-3 and went over how to do lesson 2-4.  Complete anything not finished during class for Monday.
 
Geography:  Students worked on the Landform Exploration worksheet for the first part of class and then continued on an iPad Google Street View World Tour.  The Landform Exploration sheet is due today.  Ask your student if they turned it in on time.

English: Adjective and Adverb packet. Pages 1-4 are due for tomorrow.

Science:  DNA learning activity on the computer and a DNA quiz.  Make sure your science notebook is up-to-date.  It will be your final grade of first term!
